Report: Sony to cut 1000 jobs from its smartphone division

Japan's Nikkei Business daily reported on Wednesday (with the time difference, it is still Tuesday evening in the states) that Sony is planning on lopping 1000 employees off of its smartphone division. The job cuts are focused in Europe and China, and add to a previous cut of 1000 jobs made by Sony in the same division back in October.



Sony's goal is to shrink head count in the mobile division by 5000 jobs, or 30%, by the end of the March 2016 fiscal year. The job cuts are scheduled to be announced on February 4th when Sony is scheduled to report its earnings for the period covering April ...
