Last December, there were 24 countries on this planet where Windows Phone handsets outsold the Apple iPhone. Windows Phone did have a good 2013. Research firm Kantar called it the fastest growing mobile OS in the world. Of course, Windows Phone did start the year with a low base, which made it easier to show a huge percentage gain. For example, in the U.S., 2013 saw Microsoft's mobile OS rise 67% to hold a 5% market share in the stateside smartphone market.
