Snapchat removes the best way that Windows Phone users can demand the app

Snapchat, for those unaware, is a messaging app where the photos, videos and accompanying messages all self-destruct ten seconds after they are opened by the recipient. Currently available for iOS and Android, Windows Phone users have long requested a version of the app for their platform. On Snapchat's support page there used to be a way for Windows Phone users to get their voices heard.

The Snapchat support site at one time, had an option entitled 'Support My Incompatible Device.' Windows Phone users could use that link to slam their shoe on a virtual table and demand a Windows Phone ...

AVG: Facebook’s app for Android has the biggest impact on battery life, data usage, storage use

If you have a smartphone, there is a better than average chance you use Facebook. The company endures as the world’s most popular social network by a wide margin, and the majority of its users access Facebook using mobile.

However, according to a report from the anti-virus software company, AVG, the Facebook app for Android placed a dubious first place on its ranking for overall performance impact.

Perhaps not coincidentally, Instagram, wholly owned by Facebook, is also on AVG’s short list of apps that impacts overall performance of Android devices. Taken together as apps, Facebook ...

LG's mid-range Spirit costs just $160, it's now available in Asia

Just like the Magna, Leon and Joy, the LG Spirit runs Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, and includes many of LG's exclusive software features, like Knock Code, or Glance View.

The new handset sports a 4.7-inch IPS screen with 720 x 1280 pixels - according to LG, this display is the "best in class." The Spirit ...

What T-Mobile's coverage map should look like at the end of the year

T-Mobile currently covers 265 million Americans with its 4G LTE service. It is no secret that CEO John Legere is looking for the carrier to hit 300 million at the end of the year. Recently, Legere made a presentation during Deutsche Telekom Capital Markets Day. At the event, he showed a pair of slides that explains it all.

The slides show the 4G LTE coverage offered by T-Mobile at the end of 2014, and the expected coverage by the end of this year. What makes this amazing is that in the first quarter of 2013, T-Mobile had absolutely no 4G LTE signals and was using HSPA+ to offer 4G data.

Poll results: The Samsung Galaxy S6 might not be water resistant - would that be a deal breaker for you?

We still don't know for sure if the Galaxy S6 will be water resistant or not. However, all the leaked details that showed up until now suggest that, unlike last year's Galaxy S5 (seen above), Samsung's next flagship smartphone won't be protected against water and splashes. With that in mind, earlier this week we ran a poll asking you if you'd consider the lack of water resistance a deal breaker - assuming you plan to buy a Galaxy S6 when this becomes available.

1382 voters (57.46%) said that they'd want to get a Galaxy S6 anyway, even if the handset won't be water resistant. To them, ...

These are Samsung's best Exynos-powered smartphones thus far

Samsung has been using its own Exynos SoCs inside select smartphone models since 2010, when the company released the very first Galaxy S handset. Since then, Exynos processors became more and more popular, even powering some non-Samsung handsets (made by China's Lenovo and Meizu, for example).

But it seems that it's only now, in 2015, when Exynos processors are becoming truly important, as Samsung will exclusively use the octa-core Exynos 7420 to power its next-generation flagship smartphones: the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, both of which are going to be officially announced tomorrow at ...

Huawei Watch defines luxurious and cool on a pair of company produced videos

As we come down to the final hours before Huawei makes its presentation at MWC, one of the products that it expects to unveil has appeared in a pair of company made videos. The Huawei Watch Design Story is one of the videos and shows a consumer by the name of Ash Newton, who says that his smartwatch has to look like a watch, not another smartphone. "I don't want a miniature smartphone or just another gadget to show off."

According to Huawei wearable designer Benjamin Norton, the company chose a circular dial because it is the classic watch shape. Users can choose from business-type faces, ...

How to stop notifications from showing up on your lock screen on Android Lollipop

Please note: this is a tutorial for inexperienced users.

Lollipop is still rare among Android users, but it's slowly gaining ground - not just following updates, but also thanks to manufacturers that are launching devices which run the latest version of Google's OS out of the box.

One of the new and important features that Android 5.0 Lollipop is bringing is lock screen notifications: any Lollipop device can show your notifications directly on the lock screen. While that's great, sometimes you may not want your notifications to show up on the lock screen, so Google obviously lets ...

Sony Xperia M4 Aqua in white springs a leak; still water resistant though

Just yesterday, we showed you a leaked image of the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua. With a name like Aqua, you would figure that this Android mid-ranger would carry IP certification, which it does. While Sony hasn't released the number, we are guessing that it would be around IP68 certification, which would allow the device to be submerged to as deep as 3.2 feet for 30 minutes and walk away unscathed. In other words, the Xperia M4 could do the backfloat in your toilet and still survive. The phone is water resistant even without a flap to cover the USB port.

While yesterday's leak showed the Sony Xperia ...

8 of the best music players for Android (2015 edition)

It's no secret that dedicated music players have lost their popularity since smartphones became our do-it-all devices.

While it's true that a dedicated music player / portable media player usually delivers an audio quality that many smartphones can't offer, most of us are happy with what our handsets are capable of in terms of music playback.

Right now, Android smartphones can be considered the world's most popular music players (since Android has been the dominant smartphone platform for years). Thus, it is no wonder that there's a myriad of music player apps for Android. We already ...

Swatch introduces its first smartwatch, made for Beach Volleyball

Earlier this month, we told you that the Swiss purveyor of plastic watches, Swatch, was ready to enter the competitive world of smartwatches. That news came after a 180 degree flip from CEO Nick Hayek. Hayek originally saw the intelligent timepieces as being too small for communications, and too power hungry to prevent constant battery charging.

But today, Swatch officially introduced the Swatch Touch Zero One. Believe it or not, the device is aimed at those who play Beach Volleyball. Thanks to the sensors on the watch, the Touch Zero One can distinguish between attack hits, low ...

How to make your non-Sony smartphone look like an Xperia (software-wise)

If you happen to like the look of Sony's UI that's used on the company's Xperia handsets, but you don't have an Xperia, you can bring that look to your non-Sony Android smartphone anyway.

To do that, you'll first need to download and install GO Launcher (either the free, or the paid version). Right now, GO Launcher is one of the most popular Android launchers out there, and, thanks to the fact that it supports many custom themes, you'll be able to use an Xperia theme with it. The theme that we're talking about is called Xperia Go Launcher EX Theme, and you can get it for free via Google ...

A Long Island resident named Erik Johnson found out the hard way that the Apple iPhone 5c is still red hot, literally. With the handset in his pocket, Johnson was bending down to pick up his keys when he heard a strange sound from his pocket. The next thing he knew, his iPhone was on fire, burning his leg and forcing him to stay hospitalized for ten days with second and third-degree burns on his inner thigh.

While Apple is investigating the incident, Johnson says that he only used the charger supplied by Apple with the device. Third party chargers from China have been blamed for other incidents ...

Verizon calls out DISH in recent AWS-3 spectrum auction, claims distortion tactics, files grievance with FCC

When the AWS-3 spectrum auction concluded last month, everyone was astonished at the final tally, nearly $45 billion in all, with AT&T dominating the affair at a little over $18 billion committed. Traditional logic would dictate that Verizon was the second highest bidder for spectrum, but technically, that was not the case.

DISH Network put up the second largest total of bids, $13.3 billion, but that total rolled back to just under $10 billion after certain discounts were applied.

Those discounts were granted because the companies that won those licenses were designated entities ...

The Verizon model is said to be the LG-VS999 and will reportedly feature a screen with a 3K resolution (1620 x 2880). The T-Mobile model number is unknown.

So while that covers the four major U.S. carriers, a User Agent profile recently revealed a model number LG-H818. We can see that this device will carry a 1440 x 2560 resolution screen. According to one source, this probably is the LG G4 for the Asian market.

Like listening to music on your mobile device? You might want to turn down the volume

If there is one thing mobile technology has done for us, it has changed the way we buy and listen to music. At some point during a given day, you are bound to see someone jamming to some tunes on their mobile device, using snazzy little earbuds, big fat Beats type headphones, and everything in between.

According to a statement by the UN’s World Health Organization on Friday, more than 1 billion “young people” (meaning between the ages of 12 and 35 years) are at risk of suffering hearing loss due to loud music.

Most of those at risk are in developed markets, like the United States ...

Best LTE smartphones under $200 (off contract)

Last year, we presented you a list of the best LTE smartphones that didn't cost more than $300 off contract. Since then, things have rapidly evolved, and we now have plenty of attractive (and mostly new) LTE handsets that cost even less: not more than $200. Thus, it's time for us to make a new list.

Slowly but surely, LTE is becoming a standard feature even on affordable handsets. And while many regions around the world don't have LTE coverage yet, most of them will - in the coming years. By then, we assume (or hope) that ~$100 LTE smartphones will be as common as today's 3G handsets. But ...

BlackBerry has 30% market share in Venezuela, trailing only Android's 39%

With a miniscule market share in most countries, BlackBerry usually doesn't show up on the radar. What you normally see is Android and iOS numbers one and two respectively. But in Venezuela, the top two spots belong to Android (39.2%) and BlackBerry (30.92%). This is possible because in the country, iOS has only 4.1% of the market, and the 'others' category accounts for 19.8%. The latter group consists largely of Firefox OS and Symbian users.

Overall, the country boasts a total of 12.66 million smartphones in use. With our trusty abacus in hand, we can tell you that this works out to 3.91 ...

In addition, Samsung took those Material Design guidelines by heart, adopting the bold colors and abundant whitespaces that defined Android 5.0. This also carries over to the new S Note app's interface, which looks simpler and easier to use than ever.

The apps can be downloaded from the XDA Developers board, although we won't be posting the links, as this is copyrighted material. ...

HTC One M9: the expected new features

Over the past month or so, we've been treated to many rumors and speculations regarding HTC's upcoming flagship, the One M9, which is also known as Hima. However, we don't expect the design of the phone itself to be radically different from the one of the One (M8), thus a stylish aluminum unibody will likely make the rounds once again. But the exterior ...

Up until this point, the two had a royalty agreement, and the patents were licensed to Apple to use on their handsets, ...
